This was my second trip to Tavarua with the Huntington Surf and Sport crew. I was quite excited to do this trip in not only knowing that this was going to be a great group to travel with, but that they seem to have uncanny good luck and great karma. I thought we would mostly likely be walking into some pretty incredible surf.
After a relatively easy flight and a breeze of a boat ride, we walked strait into playful, head-high Cloudbreak. This was an incredibly fun session and a much needed warm up as Surfline was forecasting a building swell for the following day. It also gave Taylor and AJ a chance to work out the kinks and prepare to throw down for some photos – They were both sporting new gear for the 2010 season compliments of their Hurley sponsorships.
Sure enough Surfline was right on the money with their forecast predictions, and the next morning we woke to flawless Cloudbreak. It is a consistent and mechanical wave, but not always easy to score with such good conditions this time of year. We were lucky! This was one to remember. Both Taylor and AJ got some incredible waves. Looking through the images that night I thought about how despite their young age they displayed a surprising amount of maturity with their surfing. Well done boys!
After this swell tapered off it was backed up with another bump of playful surf, and then again on the last day of the trip another pulse of overhead Cloudbreak. It was a week filled with so much surf, everyone went home surfed out and content.
It was a real pleasure to get to shoot with this group again. Everyone displayed some great surfing and was a lot of fun to work with. It really doesn’t get any better than getting to go to Tavarua for a week with such an awesome crew!
Thanks,
