We are professional surf photographers with a single goal in mind – to get the best possible photos of you surfing and enjoying your surf charter. We are proud of our reputation as the ‘hardest working’ photographers in the business.

Are we surfers? Yes. It helps us to know when to fire the shutter and we wouldn’t be doing this if we didn’t love the lifestyle (Some of us make the same amount of money in a weekend or even day assignment than we do on a charter)! Do we surf between your sessions? Sometimes yes, but we usually won’t do so unless we have the goods first and check with you.

Did we mention that we love this job and we get as excited about getting your barrel shot as you do about getting shacked (yes, we are photo geeks)!

When do I receive my photos?

A standard trip will receive photos on CD or DVD, which will be delivered by mail about two weeks following the trip.

Upgrades are available that allow you take your memories home with you on the plane using external memory storage devices. These options are reviewed in our members section.

How many photos do I get?

How many photos you get depends on the surf and your ability, but most guests go home with several hundred photos of themselves surfing – sometimes much more. With those kinds of numbers in your portfolio, you are certain to have a few magic shots, which is really the point.

To say it another way, by the end of this trip you will probably have more surf photos of yourself than in your entire collection (unless you are on the WCT or you have been on a trip with us before), and you will come away with some photos to put up on the wall and tell your grandchildren about.

Can you shoot some video/photos using our camera?

We specialize in professional surf photography and videography. Our equipment is the industry standard for professionals and we know it well. We prefer to focus on our assigned task whether that be Photography or Video using equipment we have hundreds of hours working with. It is our goal to get the best photos/footage of you possible, therefore, we do not film/shoot your sessions using your equipment.

If you would like photos and video on your trip, we can assign two of our professionals providing you can accommodate them.

Our surf charter offers ‘photo services’ why should we hire you?

Because of the popularity of Mentawai surf photos, some boats and resorts have added ‘photo services’ as part of their offering. Sometimes this means one of the crew members, or even the captain, will provide the service as an extension of their job on the boat or camp. While you will probably get some decent shots, this is not their full time assignment and they will shoot at their convenience (between surfs and their boat duties). This may not seem important until you get the barrel of your life while the crew member/photog is setting the anchor!

Sometimes a so-called ‘professional’ will be assigned for the full time task, but be aware they may have minimal equipment (i.e. no water housing) and limited experience. It is true in this case that one gets what they pay for.

Here are some of the advantages of hiring mentawai surf photos:
1. We are professional surf photographers using professional equipment.
2. It is our fulltime job, so you will get more photos and better coverage.
3. We know the Mentawais and the best angles to shoot it.
4. We shoot from the water (some breaks can only be shot from the water).
5. We are ‘all inclusive’ where some boats charge ‘per photo’ or ‘per disk’.

Many guests have paid ‘per photo’ and could have spent the same amount hiring one of our Mentawai specialsts!

You wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t concerned about the cost to fly that person to the Mentawai Islands and pay for their trip. Our home base is in Indonesia and our photographers spend long stretches of time in the Islands, therefore, we have no additional travel expenses.

Moreover, we have agreements with most surf charter companies and have negotiated the best possible boat fee, so you usually do not have to pay full fare to bring our photographers on your surf charter. Please contact your agent or charter company for more information regarding the cost to bring a photographer with Mentawai Surf Photos.

Finally, we know the Mentawai Islands and how to shoot the breaks. Someone that has never been to the islands or has only limited experience will not know the best angles or the right equipment to use in each situation. Additionally, many of us speak the language and have a good rapport with the locals, which will enhance your trip and create some magic photo moments.

A surf charter in the Mentawai Islands can be the trip of a lifetime and on any given day you can get the best waves of your life. This is as good a reason as any to give the camera duties to someone else and enjoy your vacation.

If you are a photographer or just into taking photos, we encourage you to bring your camera and shoot with us. The scenery is incredible and you will find plenty to place in the viewfinder. Do we have to pay for your space on the boat/resort and how much is it?

We have agreements with most surf charter companies and have negotiated the best possible boat fee, so you usually do not have to pay full fare to bring our photographers on your surf charter. Please contact your agent or charter company for more information regarding the cost to bring a photographer with Mentawai Surf Photos.

Boat/Resort fees are not included in our price.

Seems like a lot of money can you give me a discount?

Our 10 day rate is similar to what a wedding photographer often charges for a weekend. A trip to the Ments, for most surfers, is as special an event as a wedding is to a bride.

Remember, we are professionals using the highest level of professional photo/video equipment. You may find a ‘cheaper deal’ but no one is better than us at our job when you consider our complete package, travel experience, photographic knowledge and type of equipment that we have.

Sorry, we do not offer discounts, tradeouts or ‘bro deals’.
